Best Places to Eat in Val D'Isere

Val d'Isere, as one of the top ski resorts in the world, has a wide selection of bars and restaurants to keep you entertained and well-fed.
Prices are relatively high but, in the main, you will receive a high standard of service and delicious food. For lunches, there are several mountain restaurants that serve fresh home-cooked fare to keep your energy levels up for skiing the rest of the day.
La Table de l'Ours restaurant is set within Hotel Barmes de l'Ours, and has the accolade of a Michelin one-star rating. As you would expect, menus are inventive and the food beautifully presented.

L'Atelier d'Edmond in Le Fornet is arranged around 3 dining areas, each with their own distinctive style - you will feel immersed in traditional Savoyard culture. The menu is exceptional and original, service is impeccable, and a shuttle service is provided for guests. This is a memorable place, perfect for whiling away the hours with fine company, excellent food and outstanding wines.
Le Grande Ourse is considered to be one of the finest restaurants in Val d'Isre, and prices reflect this. The restaurant opened in the 1930s when Val was establishing itself as a ski resort. Meals here are as gourmet as they get in Val.
Pier Paul Jack in the Aigle des Neiges hotel consists of three places in one and is currently one of the 'places to be'. Pier is the hotel restaurant. Paul is the original 'world cuisine' restaurant, and Jack is the tapas bar where you can enjoy live music whilst you eat.
On the slopes, probably the most famous restaurant is La Folie Douce (top of Daille bubble). Enjoy the spectacular views towards Mont Blanc from the balconies or the huge sofas. This is not the place to go if you like peace and quiet, as there is usually music on all day, and things start to get raucous from around 4 pm. If this appeals to you, hang around for a great aprs-ski, with champagne, dancing on the tables and thumping music. Food-wise, this is basically an expensive self-service restaurant with a wide range of fare and an acceptable plat du jour.
Right next to La Folie Douce is La Fruitiere, serving much the same fare but at twice the price, in much more peaceful surroundings! They are both certainly worth a visit for the atmosphere, and, if you're in a catered ski chalet, you may prefer to dine in the comfort of your chalet in the evenings.
This is just a taster of some of the restaurants in Val, I will also be reviewing the bars soon and will keep you posted.
For the finest French ski chalets, look no further than Le Chardon Mountain Lodges. Exceptionally high standards, fabulous yet welcoming accommodation, and ski in, ski out access, our 5 catered ski chalets are situated amidst breathtaking scenery in the resort of Val d'Isere in France.
