Calabria is famous for its wonderful beaches, its clear-blue sea and its landscapes, and for this reason it is a popular travel destination in summer. But Calabria is worth a visit all year round: the cities of this region, from Cosenza to Catanzaro, are beautiful and here you can find many interesting monuments and historical buildings; moreover, the breath-taking landscapes of this region can be admired in all the seasons; last nut not least, if you love fine food, you can be sure that in Calabria you can eat and try many typical dishes that you will certainly like. And if you visit Calabria in autumn, in particular, you will have the chance to take part in many interesting town festivals dedicated to typical dishes, food and specialties.

At the end of October, for example, the city of Cosenza hosts a chocolate festival, an event that is always long-awaited by children and adults, by people coming from Cosenza but also from other cities and by tourists. Who does not love chocolate? In 2012 the chocolate festival of Cosenza will celebrate its 10th edition and will be held from the 26th to the 28th of October along Corso Mazzini, confirming the role of the city as one of the Italian capital cities of chocolate. The programme of the event includes tastings, workshops, presentations of new products but also shows and entertainment. The event, which is always very successful, is also meant to support the chocolatiers of the territory, showing their ability and their original creations to a wide audience.

But the chocolate festival in Cosenza is only one of the several interesting events that are held in the cities of Calabria in autumn and that give visitors the chance to take part in traditional and local events and to taste something good! Autumn is the season of chestnuts, and in many cities of Calabria events dedicated to this product are organized. Here is a perfect example: from the 1st to the 4th of November the village San Donato di Ninea (province of Cosenza) will host the autumn Festival, and chestnuts will be protagonist together with other typical products. A good chance also to admire one of the most suggestive villages of the region, which rises in the Pollino National Park, the largest park in Italy, which is well-known for both its natural and archaeological sites. In addition to the tasting of chestnuts, the festival offers music, cultural and folk events.

In Taverna, province of Catanzaro, at the end of October you can enjoy the sausage and potato festival (this year it will take place on the 28th of October). The 29th edition of the Festival will celebrate the silana sausage, a specialty of the region which is very appreciated also by tourists, and during the festival Taverna will be livened up by music and shows!

If you thought that the only season to visit Calabria was summer, now you have found some reasons to visit this wonderful region also in all the other seasons!
